Bill and I just got back from casting our all important votes in downtown Grand Rapids for new mayor, city commissioner and the good ole' GRCC proposed increase (and no, we don't wear the stickers they give us when you leave just in case you were wondering).
We asked the poll workers how has turn out been? Their answer as of 3:30pm today, about average. They note it always picks up after work ends. As it stands so far, they believe the voter turnout is the same as previous years. The city clerk had predicted a higher than usual turnout. Unless everyone is waiting to show up after work, the numbers may not be as high as we had all hoped. Of course, absentee ballots help the final numbers. Low turnout in the city benefits some of the candidates and some of the issues, but not others. The final results will be very, very interesting.
We'll post further updates tonight as events warrant more information.

I was the last voter in the City of Walker Ward 3 Precinct 3, the machine read 281 votes cast, I don't know the total population for the the ward and precinct but 281 votes seemed pretty low to me.

Hello Horatio,
The numbers were very low where we voted as well. I don't think you were alone in seeing that sad little number displayed in the ballot box. Too many have an opinion, but too few care enough to vote and try to make a change. Sigh.
Thanks for getting out the vote.
