Last month the Right Place Inc., River City's economic development agency, announced that it won a $400,000 grant from federal taxpayers to set up a test program to train manufacturers to increase productivity and reduce waste. The grant is administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, so apparently the program's objectives have some sort of green angle to them. Of course, the grant is a waste of money, because manufacturers already see the green in becoming lean and mean. It's called profit.
