CITY SEZ NO TO RESTROOMS
Last week we reported on a problem discovered by Robert Harrison, the coach of Creston’s girls tennis team. His team practices and hosts matches at Aberdeen Park, where due to budget cuts the City of Grand Rapids closed the restrooms. This week, led by Mayor George Heartwell, the Grand Rapids City Commission refused to spend the $200 a month it would cost to keep the restrooms at Aberdeen Park open. However, they did approve a $50,000 payment to a private consulting firm to advise our solons on “lean administration”.
That fifty thousand bucks could keep restrooms open at twenty city parks throughout the entire year, but we see where the budget priorities lie for our city commissioners. Heartwell and the gang are happy to go step by step towards making the quality of life in River City’s neighborhoods as miserable as possible, but they’ll blow the equivalent of a working stiff’s annual wages on a pointless study for themselves. These are the perverse priorities of the people elected to run our city. Keep that in mind when you check inside that port-a-john over at Aberdeen Park.
