Now that the Grand Rapids Public School District has privatized student bussing with Dean Transportation, it no longer needs the $2.5 million it raised in last year's millage increase to buy new busses. But, school board V.P. Amy McGlynn wants to keep her grubby little hands on the taxpayers' money to spend on high-priority items in the budget-crunched district like field trips. However, more sensible remarks have come from boardmembers Rhonda Grochowalski and Jim Rinck who believe returning the now unneeded funds to the taxpayers is the right thing to do. Rinck noted the obvious to Press reporter Dave Murray: The district's taxpayers don't trust us. Giving us our money back would be one step towards healing that breach.
